We just bought dirt cheap tickets. And by dirt cheap, I mean....it was a pretty expensive cup o' dirt. We are actually going to Rome.Duces America, we are going to be so eruo. So since it is t minus eight weeks until we cross the pond, it is necessary to tell our faithful readers (our moms, Katie's dad, and Duncan) how this friendship began.
It was a hot summer's day in Fayetteville and everyone was standing awkwardly with their parents. You guessed it, ORIENTATION OH SIX! Yes, we were both enrolled in the Agri school, and no neither of us belonged.
Katie, adorned in all her oh-so-Cali summer gear was way too cool for any of the small town Arkansas folk who were talking about the versatile and varying uses of cotton. Who knew that they were learning how to fireproof it so firefighters could have a more lightweight outfit? Not us.
Emily, straight from summer camp, was covered in thousands of string jewlery-ish items. Donned in a mom haircut, a hippie skirt, and chacos, she was ready to make some life long friends at orientation. After being shot down by one stuck-up bratty apparel studies major (we know who you are, and she still is a tad wounded), she decided that the cool girl seemed nice....
"Hey, your an interior design major, right?"
"Yea."
"So, am I, I am Emily."
Katie scoffed a tad, stuck her nose in the air, and choked "Katie." It was really embarrassing for her that she was seen talking to somebody in a shoe/sandal hybrid. (NOTE: in all fairness to Emily, Katie has and wears a pair of ankle-length pink Uggs.)
So Emily, fresh from the land of lets-be-bffs, kept talking about who knows what. If she had any social skills, she would have stopped way before she did. We think something about the mom haircut made her act a little bit like a mom.
After a dreadful orientation, both girls thought maybe college was not for them. Finally they reached the last stage of the hellish few days: registration. Emily registered at lightning speed, grabbed her bag, and went to meet her mom at the union. As everyone knows, directions and Emily don't work well together, 20 min. later she found the union, and there was Katie. She walked up to Emily, and it put a spark in Emily's heart...it could be a new friend.
"I think you have my bag," said Katie.
"Oh, I am sorry!" said Emily.
The rest is history, somehow we became legit friends.....
